The question about cabinet ministers holding on to their positions once parliament has been dissolved next week has resurfaced with civil society organizations seeking the intervention of the constitutional court.
Former Transparency International Zambia president Reuben Lifuka and SACCORD executive director are of the view that cabinet ministers will forfeit their positions once parliament has been dissolved.
Lifuka said that since Cabinet is appointed from within parliament there will be no basis for Cabinet ministers to remain in their positions.
Parliament is set to be dissolved next week as part of the process that will lead into the August 11 elections.
The Zambian constitution provides that the President appoints cabinet from within parliament.
