Ballot PapersThe battle to print ballot papers for the August 11 general elections has just gone into another round with the Zambia Public Procurement Authority directing the Electoral Commission of Zambia to review the awarding of the tender to Dubai-based printing company Al Ghurair.

Electoral Commission of Zambia chairperson Esau Chulu said the ZPPA had asked the commission to revisit the process leaving all the 13 bidders with a chance.

Chulu said during a stakeholders’ meeting with political parties that the process will be reviewed.
Last week South Africa based printing company Ren-Form challenged the decision by the ECZ to award the tender to Al Ghurair of Dubai with the ECZ referring the matter to the ZPPA.

The issue of ballot papers has been at the centre of electoral discourse further delaying the process of announcing the successful bidder.

ECZ had to clarify that matters of printing ballot papers went beyond just the technical competence but covered a lot more aspects like security.

Meanwhile, the ECZ has met with political parties to nail out some pressing issues ahead of the August 11 general elections.
