Opposition UPND cadres this afternoon attempted to disrupt a public rally addressed by agriculture minister Given Lubinda and his tourism counterpart Jean Kapata.
Kapata and Lubinda were joined by PF deputy spokesperson Frank Bwalya and Mufumbwe MP Steven Masumba.
Energy minister Dora Siliya has condemned the action by UPND cadres urging them to be tolerant of divergent political views. Monze is in Southern Province which is a UPND stronghold.
The PF is hoping to boost its numbers, but political experts say the ruling party may get less than 10% of the total votes from that region.
Below is Siliya’s Statement
Yet another PF rally in Monze led by Hons. Jean Kapata, Given Lubinda and Steven Masumba. Father Bwalya, Mr Madyenkuku and Mr Mwananjiti in attendance as well. As usual UPND cadres in view of the Public, Ministers and Police thought disrupting the rally is the best way to show support for their Party.
Clearly, no one told UPND that democracy is being able to hear what your opponents are saying peacefully because politics is purely a competition of development ideas..NOT VIOLENCE OR INTOLERANCE EXHIBITED BY ATTEMPTING TO DISRUPT ANOTHER PARTY’S RALLY. SHAME.
But here is what I love about our people the poor and ordinary whose votes we seek. They can tell who cares for their families and our country as those who do, preach love and peace.
It is why no one can go to statehouse by preaching hatred, tribalism or regionalism. We are indeed one Zambia and one Nation.
Have a great labour day weekend.
