Kazala RichardPeople have a lot of confidence in the leadership of Andrew (Kamanga) and me, says FAZ vice-president Richard Kazala.

Kazala said in an interview with bolazambia that there was overwhelming support being accorded to the leadership of Kamanga because Zambians had realized football management was fast slipping into the doldrums.

He says he has a cordial relationship with his boss, contrary to speculation suggesting the two were at loggerheads and pulling in opposite direction.

Kazala says he has an open door relationship with Kamanga.

“If there is an issue, Andrew calls me, and if I have an issue to discuss with Andrew, I also call him,” the Chingola-based official said.

Kazala dismissed speculation that he was recently in Central Province to launch a bid to unseat Kamanga.

“I’m not aware of that…the last time I was in Central Province was when we were campaigning for FAZ elections,” the former deputy sports minister explained.

Kazala said there are individuals who were trying to plant seeds of discontent so as to create a hostile environment between him and Kamanga.

“Time for campaign is over. This is now time for us to work for the good of football. You know that the image of FAZ was dented, so we have to work to repair it,” he added.

Asked to comment on the selection process of the FAZ general secretary whose shortlist excluded African football consultant Ponga Liwewe, Kazala said he was not authorized to issue statements on behalf of the association.

“The policy at FAZ at the moment is such that only the general secretary, who is the spokesperson, or the president can make official statements. I can only issue a statement if the president has authorized me, or he is not available,” the Chingola businessman said.

A list of 10 individuals has been drawn by a select committee chaired by Dr Joseph Mulenga.

Prominent football faces on the list are veteran sports administrator and financial expert Simataa
Simataa, Zambia Police director of sport Adrian Kashala and lawyer Lombe Mbalashi.

Liwewe was removed from the list on account of speculation, but FAZ is yet to issue an official statement on the process. Interviews are set for May 6.
