HH-Kabimba-GBMUPND leader Hakainde Hichilema has pulled one of his favourite mantras when his party falls foul with the law by alleging that President Edgar Lungu wants to declare state of emergency in order to avoid elections.

But the ruling Patriotic Front has laughed off the claims for a state of emergency saying they could not be scared of someone who cannot win elections.

Hichilema made the claim in the heat of his vice president in charge of administration Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba being arrested for alleged unlawful drilling of suspected militia.

He said that President Lungu wanted to avoid elections by declaring a state of emergency.

“Their plan is to create confusion so that they declare a state of emergency so that they avoid elections,” Hichilema said.

“I want to tell Lungu that he will not avoid an election. We will help him out through
the ballot.”

PF general secretary Davies Chama said the country will go for elections as provided for in the constitution.

He said that Hichilema was day dreaming by making claims about a state of emergency.

UPND vice president Mwamba was arrested but released on a K50, 000 bond in default.

He is expected to appear in court on March 10.

Meanwhile, 10 suspected UPND cadres were arrested on Wednesday in Woodlands as they tried to block the road during Mwamba’s interrogation.
