The Millers Association of Zambia has raised the possibility of increasing the price of mealie meal in the wake of imminent rise in electricity tariffs.
Association president Allan Sakala said the increase in prices was inevitable after cabinet approved the increase in electricity tariffs for commercial entities.
Sakala said what will differ will be the percentages of the increase in the prices of mealie meal.
The increase in electricity tariffs was made on the premise that it will trigger the possibility of further investments in the sector.
Zambia is currently hit by a critical electricity deficit that has got the government and Zesco working to hammer out a solution.
