The Zambian consulate in Guangzhou has been operationized four months after President Edgar Lungu’s visit to China.
President Lungu has appointed Robert Kalimi as consular general in a move to ease the pressure on the Beijing station that is deemed too far from the highly industrialized Guangzhou area.
Kalimi was before his posting deputy ambassador in Kenya and will take up his new posting with immediate effect.
The close ties between Zambia and China date back to the First Republic with some of their contribution to infrastructural development still visible.
