Kaunda Square-LusakaThe World Bank has released over US $60 million to rehabilitate the water circulation and sewage systems in Lusaka province.

Outlying areas such as Kafue and Chongwe will also benefit from this exercise that seeks to improve the circulation system in the country’s capital city which has recorded tremendous population growth recently.

One of the areas already undergoing an overhaul is Kaunda Square compound which has some of the worst water and sewer infrastructure.

The work in Kaunda Square, which is in Munali constituency, has started with some houses facing demolition to pave way for the installation of water and sewer pipes.

Residents in these areas have welcomed the news saying its long overdue especially that they have had to endure poor circulation systems that has sometimes led to outbreak of diseases.

The population of Lusaka has increased rapidly in the last five years rising from 1.7 million in 2009 to about 2.5 million in 2015.
