The Road Traffic and Transport Agency says it detained 18 people over the weekend for drunken driving.
According to public relations officer Mercy Mwila, 16 of the drivers were derained while two were released after their alcohol levels were deemed low on verification.
She said the number of drunken drivers in Lusaka was becoming a worying trend.
“We arrested 18 people over the weekend in Lusaka for being drunk and driving. We have noticed that this trend is on the increase so we are doing more checks across the city to try and curb this problem,” she said.
“There have been so many accidents that have been linked to drunkenness.”
