Kitwe District Commissioner Binwell Mpundu has handed to Chapamo Mineral Processing a report by a committee tasked to ascertain the extent of damages to houses in Nkana West after blasts at the Black Mountain a few months ago.
Mpundu said the committee has made recommendations on how the group of small scale miners can operate without endangering people’s lives.
He was host to all residents whose houses developed cracks after the blasts at the Black Mountain.
Mpundu has since given Chapamo Mineral Processing up to tomorrow to study the report and consent to issues raised as well as bringing out any matters to better operations.
He said the community have raised complaints over the routes being used as well as spillages on the roads.
“The meeting was a very progressive one with Chapamo committing to addressing all the complaints from the community as well as promising to stick to the commitment to address the damages that the houses in Nkana west suffered during the blast. By Tuesday Chapamo will indicate to us as to how they will progress to handle what’s in the report vis-à-vis the repairs to the damages whose total costs is estimated at K 700,400,” he said.
He has since appealed to affected residents to remain calm as efforts continue to resolve all pending issues.
