A 59 year old man of Masaiti District on the Copperbelt has been killed by an angry mob on suspicion that he killed his own daughter through alleged witchcraft practices.
The man identified as Aaron Mambwe died of serious injuries after the mob descended on him on allegations that he bewitched his daughter Lilian Chola.
Copperbelt Commissioner of Police Charity Katanga who confirmed the development said the deceased (daughter who died on Sunday) is believed to have been suffering from severe chest pains.
She said during burial pole bearers practiced a ritual commonly known as ‘ichikondo’ (moving coffin) claiming that the coffin was directing them to her killer.
Katanga explained that upon heading to the fathers position, the mob descended on him with different objects beating him to death.
She said police who rushed to scene found father to the deceased, lying on the ground dead with multiple injuries and the body was later deposited in Ndola Teaching Hospital awaiting postmortem.
