Chipenzi said despite his resignation, he remained committed to the two causes’ reform of the NGO Act no. 16 of 2009 and campaign for a new people-driven Constitution and enactment of the expanded Bill of Rights.

“I wish to inform the nation that effective today, 23rd February 2016, I have resigned as the spokesperson of the Grand Coalition on the campaign for a new people-driven Constitution in Zambia, and I also wish to announce that I have resigned as the vice-chairperson of the Council of NGOs in Zambia,” he said.

Chipenzi said that he would continue to fight for an enabling operating environment for civil society and NGOs in Zambia, and urged all civil society organizations in Zambia to continue with the campaign for a user-friendly NGO Act and support the current reform efforts to the `NGO Act no. 16 of 2009 while casting an “eagle’s eye” on the process.

Chipenzi asked Government to be clear and share the road map on the national referendum on the Bill of Rights as many people were in the dark with regard to the process.

He thanked all the stakeholders for the support they rendered during his tenure as both spokesperson and vice-chairperson of the Grand Coalition and Council of NGOs respectively.
