Football followers may have noticed perhaps how curiously newly appointed Football Association of Zambia Treasurer Rix Mweemba has sneaked into his new job with reckless abandon.
Nothing wrong with the Mazabuka United official seeking and getting employment within his competencies but not too long ago Mweemba was among the football officials that traversed the length and breadth of the country preaching the need for change at Football House.
Mweemba was a critical voice in the crusade for a vote of no confidence against FAZ president Kalusha Bwalya which was ironically thwarted by the shameful last minute withdrawal of the motion by then Mazabuka United chairman Evans Mushiba.
What has changed in Mweemba today to now enjoy the lofty praise he is getting right now from his new found friends at Football House who are touting him as a “seasoned football administrator and FIFA instructor?” maybe he is having served under previous administrations but that is not the story today. His turnaround mirrors the biblical narrative of Lottie’s wife who lusted for the life style of Sodom.
Those in the know in the game will not have forgotten what loathsome things were said against Mweemba by a certain Eric Mwanza then FAZ spokesperson. But today you would think Mwanza may have had a brain transplant given the heap of praise lumped on Mweemba. Not too long ago Kelvin Mutafu who resigned as treasurer repeatedly got the same dosage of praise and may now know better.
Morally as FAZ inches toward elections there is need for councillors to exercise the highest sense of prudence to at least give the game some fresh air.
Surely the game can do without charlatans like Ndola businessman Pivoty Simwanza who in the last few years has been swivelling from one camp to the next and still gets his way by just distributing a few footballs and counterfeit jerseys.
