The ruling Patriotic Front Secretary General Davies Chama says Members of Parliament in the ruling party who claim to have been sidelined are simply looking for an excuse to leave the party.
Chama, in an apparent reference to Mpongwe MP Gabriel Namulambe, said that there was no need for anyone to blackmail the ruling party into giving them ministerial positions.
The party chief executive was indirectly responding Namulambe who recently threatened that he would withdraw his support from the PF if he continued being sidelined.
Namulambe had been hoping to be appointed to a ministerial position after ditching the opposition MMD but has stayed a back bencher.
Chama said that MPs should know that ministerial appointments were not a matter of right.
“Those who are saying they have been sidelined are just lazy they do not do anything for the party. Politics is voluntary and not a source of employment,” he said. “They are just looking for an excuse to leave the party.”
