Former Auditor General Anna Chifungula has looked back at her 13 years at the helm of the money control room as a mixture of joy and frustration.
Chifungula, whose strong stance against abuse of public funds earned her widespread respect, said it was her prayer that her successor would not relent in highlighting areas of abuse.
She said that law enforcement agencies had been a letdown overall in pursuing public service workers that abused funds.
“We have laid a foundation and have trained our staff over the years. I hope the person who is going to take over will soldier on,” Chifungula said.
“We had our challenges with the law enforcement agencies acting on the irregularities highlighted.”
She said that it was a plus that the public had learnt to pay attention to the Auditor General’s Report following widespread public awareness programs
