Zambia was hit by a near countrywide blackout on Thursday night.
Energy minister Dora Siliya confirmed the blackout saying the interconnection between Zambia and Zimbabwe collapsed when importing off peak power.
She said there was some tripping to the whole system on the Zambian side.
“This has disrupted power supply to all Provinces EXCEPT Southern and Western Provinces,”
Most of Lusaka had power restored between three to five hours after the blackout. Zambians are already grappling with increased load-shedding and most of them are incensed with Thursday’s development.
Note: The original article indicated that the blackout was on Wednesday. The correct position is that the black out was last night (Thursday). Sincere apology for the mix up of the days.
