A near disaster of a magnitude never seen before in Zambia happened at Mopani’s Mindolo Shaft when nearly 300 miners where trapped underground for 8 hours.
An electrical fault caused a power outage when a fire burnt out a substation and connector cables plunging the mine into complete darkness.
Emergency power could not be immediately used because the burnt out cables and substation had to be bypassed.
In a fantastic feat, not only was every miner rescued but emergency power was connected and services like dewatering and ventilation restored.
Instead our papers and TV news were just full of the same political garbage. Are human lives so cheap? Are the doings and sayings of politicians so important?
This is a shameful episode in Zambian journalism!!!!
