Education Minister Michael Kaingu may have to lose more sleep as another trouble spot has formed up at the University of Zambia Ridgeway campus where medical students stormed his office over what they termed “indefinite closure” of the school that houses the medicine faculty.
In the morning yesterday, Kaingu had to face up with another show down with University of Zambia Great East road campus who had rioted blocking the Great East road during the early morning rush hour.
The UNZA students from Great East were angered by the delay in releasing results for the 2014/15 academic year following an impasse between lecturers, management and government.
Their Ridgeway colleagues marched to Kaingu’s office demanding that he intervenes in the matter where lecturers have withheld their labour citing non payment of outstanding allowances.
According to the students from the medical faculty, they were due to open on August, 31, but the school had remained closed with no one rendering an explanation.
