Nevers Mumba has continued leading the opposition Movement for Multi Party Democracy down the drain with yet another failure after the party’s candidate in the Solwezi West failed to file his nomination.
The seat was held by the MMD’s Humphrey Mwanza whose death created the vacancy.
MMD candidate Fordson Museli was scheduled to file his nomination papers at 10:00 hours on Wednesday, but only showed up three hours later to announce his withdrawal.
The MMD attempted to ask for a postponement of the nomination period, but had their request declined by the Electoral Commission of Zambia.
Mumba, who had before now been in self imposed political hibernation, half heartedly accused the ECZ of colluding with the ruling PF to aid the MMD’s failures.
Ironically Mumba has been on the trot on what he terms revival drive squealing about being denied permission, but in Solwezi where he may have had a legitimate passport to campaign he has lost the opportunity where the seat was held by the MMD.
Meanwhile, three candidates have successfully filed their nomination papers for the September 24 parliamentary by-election.
The ruling PF had Martin Mbaya with UPND fielding Teddy Kasonso while UNIP has floated John Njombi.
