post-newspaper-zambia-reportsThe Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) have taken up a case of labour law violations at Fred M’membe’s newspaper where workers have gone nearly five months without being paid.

ZCTU has written the Labour Commissioner to inquire about the situation obtaining at the private institution. Workers at The Post don’t have union and are not allowed to form any such gropuinh.

Labour and Social Security Minister Fackson Shamenda has since warned employers in the country to comply with the labour laws.

Shamenda says the case of the Post Newspaper’s alleged failure to pay workers for over four months is before the Labour Commissioner.

Shamenda says he can only intervene in the matter if the Labour Commissioner brings it to his attention but that as for now the commissioner is handling it. But observers say Shamenda con do nothing about the situation because he is M’membe’s pocket.
