The Drug Enforcement Commission in Lusaka has arrested a 42 year-old business woman of Chilenje for trafficking in cocaine.
Florence Machanda, 42, a business woman of Chilenje has been arrested for trafficking in 18.8g of cocaine. The suspect was on the Commissions watch list for a long time for supplying cocaine to members of the public in Kabwata. She was apprehended from her bar in Kabwata.
And in a related development, the Commission has arrested and jointly charged Ernest Chongo, 19, a footballer residing at House No. 21/10 John Laing Compound and Shadreck Ngosa, 27, a bus conductor of House No. 3 Chinsali Road in Chilenje for trafficking in 22 sachets of cocaine. The suspects were intercepted at a named guest house in Garden Compound.
Also arrested in Lusaka Province is James Kalwasha, 47, a businessman of Matero Township for being in possession of $700 United States Dollar counterfeit notes. The suspect was apprehended from Lusaka’s Levy Junction.
Meanwhile, the Commission in Chinsali District has arrested and jointly charged Mabvuto Daka, 23, of Katoza village and Innocent Simengwa, 21, of the same abode for being in possession of K200 counterfeit notes in K100 bills. The suspects were apprehended after an alert shop owner notified the authorities.
And in Eastern Province the Commission in a joint operation with the Forestry Department and the Zambia Police Service has arrested twenty (20) Malawian nationals for being in possession of 133 logs of the Mukula tree contrary to the laws of Zambia.
The first twelve (12) suspects were apprehended on a Fuso truck laden with 79 logs of the Mukula tree while the rest where nabbed on another Fuso truck carrying 54 logs of the mukula tree. The suspects were intercepted in Kapongolo area in Lundazi District enroute to Malawi. The Commission has since seized the two Fuso trucks used in committing the offence.
