The Confederation of African Football has slapped a US$10, 000 fine on Nkana following Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili’s pitch invasion on July 25 to accost referee Tessema Weyesa after awarding the visitors two penalties.
Nkana won the match 4-3 but an irate Kambwili in tow with National Sports Council of Zambia chairperson Mwamba Kalenga followed the referee and verbally abused him.
Kambwili branded the official very stupid as he was shepherded away by police officers.
Kambwili stormed the pitch at the end of the CAF Confederation Cup Group B tie at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe to protest over Weyesa’s officiating in a match he handed Etoile two penalties.
The Roan Member of Parliament was upset with the manner the last penalty was given deep into injury time after the 90 minutes.
Weyesa had to be shielded from Kambwili by State Police but was pelted with beer and missiles as he headed into the dressing room.
