The Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia is only producing fertilizer for the Fertilizer Support Programme with nothing being churned out for the open market, says executive director Zuze Banda.
Banda said so far there was pressure to met out the 80, 000 metric tonnes for the FSP as demanded by government before producing any fertilizer for the market.
He said there were no materials to produce the commodity for the open market.
The stage managed production of the FSP commodity has left the open market shot of the commodity.
“Right now we are only producing the 80, 000 metric tonnes for the Fertilizer Support Programme. There are no raw materials for the open market so we are not producing for that,” Banda said.
Recently agriculture minister Bob Sichinga flagged off the 2014 FSP programme at a highly publicized event at the financially troubled company.
